In the 1860s Father Pandosy settled here on the area not far from Mission Creek. Soon his settlement grew and turned into one of the biggest farms of the Valley. Local residents were mostly farmers raising cattle for supplying the Cariboo gold miners with necessary food products, as well as other new-coming settlers. After the railway reached Okanagan Landing the CPR stern wheeler routs was extended to service Kelowna, a town founded in 1892 as a result of rapid local population growth. Kelowna became a city in 1905 and its population continued to grow even during the World Wars I and II.
